Panasonics first batch of 3D plasma TVs sells out in first week
In America the first block of
3D Plasma Sets from
Panasonic have all sold out. There are no confirmed number on exactly how many
3d-TVs were in the first batch but this is remarkable nevertheless.
Panasonic are producing
3DTVs in 4 sizes (50, 54, 58, and 64 inches) and this first batch were the 50 inch model. Along with the
3D TV buyers also got a 3D Blu-ray player. However, the received only 1 pair of 3D glasses (required for the 3D action). All together, this bundle was selling for $2900 USD. A Panasonic representative said, "It's a great opportunity to turn around our TV business".
There are always people who are willing to jump head first into new technology and what is required is a quantum leap into the mainstream. The main downside to 3D TV remain the glasses. Firstly, you need to where them and secondly, additional pairs can cost up to $100USD. There is an additional downside
(content) but the 3D sport revolution will sort this out within a few months.
There just maybe a market for 3D TV... A bigger market than the press is giving it at the moment!
